Funpyeong County in Jeollanam-do is constructing a community-driven urban regeneration model tailored to the local characteristics and building a sustainable growth foundation. Funpyeong County announced that the Funpyeong Urban Regeneration Support Center held the "Urban Regeneration Resident Consensus Workshop and Sharing Session" on December 12 at the Nabi Attraction Center. The workshop was attended by around 50 participants, including residents involved in urban regeneration projects in various villages. The Funpyeong Urban Regeneration Support Center organized this workshop to share experiences from the past five years of operating urban regeneration focal facilities, focusing on successful operation cases, discussing their strengths and weaknesses, and exploring solutions for operational issues. In particular, as "2025 Winter Light Festival" approaches, the workshop aimed to derive ways for urban regeneration focal facilities to expand participatory programs involving residents and strengthen their role in connecting with local festivals. During the workshop, Yang Sang-gil, the director of the Funpyeong Village Urban Regeneration Village Management Social Cooperative, and Jeong Chun-hui, the director of the Hakgyo Village Urban Regeneration Village Management Social Cooperative, shared their experiences and achievements in implementing the Funpyeong Village Urban Regeneration New Deal Project and the Hakgyo Village Urban Regeneration Preparatory Project, respectively. They emphasized the crucial role of residents in operating focal facilities for the sustainability of urban regeneration. Since 2021, Funpyeong County has constructed five urban regeneration focal facilities in five villages: Funpyeong Village Nabi Attraction Center, Nabi Street Café, Nabi Street Store, Nabi Sleeping Place, and Village Workshop; NaSan Village NaSan Halmoni's Tea House; Haebo Village Flower Mud Cafe; Hakgyo Village Healthy Dream Cafe. Additionally, the county is planning to establish an urban regeneration activation plan in Wolya Village. Each facility is operated by residents through resident consensus bodies and village cooperative members. They directly plan and operate programs tailored to their respective villages' characteristics, while developing self-sustaining business models by utilizing local agricultural and specialty products. A resident from Wolya Village, preparing for the urban regeneration project, shared, "It was a valuable time to understand the direction of how to prepare and operate the urban regeneration project by observing previous operation cases." They expressed their commitment to gradually implementing the urban regeneration project tailored to Wolya Village's unique characteristics. A Funpyeong County official stated, "We hope that community-driven urban regeneration will facilitate smooth communication and cooperation within the local area." They also pledged ongoing administrative support for fostering a vibrant community and sustainable urban regeneration.
